“This post is for smaller care home groups who may not have a lot of time and resources to spare.”
— Virginia Simpson, Interim Marketing at KareInn
Every year since our launch in 2016/17, we at KareInn have been speaking with existing and potential care home customers extensively, and sometimes we enter formal RFP processes. Because we’ve been in enough final rounds to know who’s considered the top care planning software players, we thought we’d share this with you, particularly if you are a smaller care home group and don’t have a lot of time and resources. We’re never ones to shy away from being blatantly honest with respect to the competition, and we want our clients to be as informed as possible.
As a marketing growth consultant, my advice to the smaller players in any sector is to look at what the big guys are doing. They have the budget and resources to do the due diligence, product testing and research. In the case of the social care sector and in particular residential care homes, the big guys are the large care home groups, the top 20 players. You can find them on the back of Laingbuisson monthly “Care markets” journal. These organisations can sometimes take years to choose their solution but you can be assured they’ve done their homework!
Note: if price is your primary criteria for selecting software, then this article may not be for you. From what I’ve seen and heard it’s a pretty even playing field in terms of cost per bed, but there are free options on the market too.
Here is the short-list of companies that are always in the last round of the major tenders with us. Remember, the data is limited to what we (KareInn Digital Care Planning) have seen and have been part of. The list isn’t long and probably won’t surprise you if you read Care Home Professional and many of the other care home publications. They both have taken in investment that enables them to take a more aggressive sales and marketing approach and it’s paid off for them as they both have the largest share of care homes to date. Their solutions have contributed significantly to the digital transformation of the sector.
- Nourish Care is based in Bournemouth. The company was founded in 2015, by Nuno Almeida, whose vision was to create a simple-to-use care recording system.
Nourish provides smart care management technology, apps and tools for people who care. Saving time, admin and enhancing the quality of care you provide.
- Person Centred Software (PCS) was founded by entrepreneur brothers Jonathan and Simon Papworth and the company is based in Guildford.
Person Centred Software was started in 2013 with the objective of helping to improve the quality of life for people in social care.
I told you the list was short!
Both companies have been trailblazers and have led the initiative for interoperability with the NHS and GP connect. This work should be commended and makes the path a lot easier for the other software suppliers.
